MRC Bearings

From the early horseless carriages to today's jet engines, MRC Bearings has pioneered the design and manufacture of ball and roller bearings.

MRC traces is roots back to the early 1900's. In 1902, just a year before the Wright Brothers first flew at Kitty Hawk, Frederick W. Gurney founded the Gurney Ball Bearing Company and, by 1905, was manufacturing bearings for the automotive industry.

It was not long before Gurney, the inventor of the radial-thrust angular-contact bearing, saw his bearings take flight in early aircraft engines. In 1918, those same innovative bearings permitted a major advance in aircraft propeller technology - allowing the pitch to be adjusted in flight. Gurney also invented the Radial Type R ball bearing, the first duplex bearing, comprised of a matched pair of counter-bored bearings. It enabled unprecedented accuracy for high-speed machine tool spindles.
